Memorial Weekend Relaxation

Posted by elefantz on June 6, 2010

Cheryl and I were lucky enough to be able to get away for the Memorial Day Weekend.  While it was a requested stay by Aunt Pam to watch the dogs while she and Uncle Jim went away, Cheryl and I thought it was wonderful.

Sebastian Bach

We were able to get out of town at no cost to us and relax and do whatever we wanted.  The first thing we noticed was that VHI Classic was doing an A to Z countdown of 80′s videos.  We saw some great videos; some of which we haven’t seen since the 80′s, and had a wonderful time discussing memories we have from our youth that correspond with the videos or artists and once again drooling over some of our favorites.

When we were able to tear ourselves away from the videos we watched a few movies:

Avatar, which was so incredibly awesome and better than either of us had expected.  In fact, neither of us had actually wanted to see the movie.  It turns out that we would have missed an excellent storyline, spectacular acting and a phenomenal movie over all.

Sex in the City, the original, which was okay.  I had seen it and Cheryl wasn’t a great fan but we thought what the heck.  Neither of us care for Big so it was no Woo Hoo to us.  Overall we thought it was mediocre.

Taken, which was very powerful and moving.  Liam Neeson is, of course, extremely good looking to both of us and the fact that he pretty much carried the movie was amazing.  There were very few scenes that he was not in.

Then on Monday, Mom and Dad came to get us and surprised us by taking us the the new Wild Horse Pass Casino.  It was wonderful to play at a new location and try new slots.  All in all, we had a terrific weekend and are looking forward to more like this.

Scary Moments

Posted by elefantz on June 4, 2010

Freaking Out!

Had the scare of a lifetime the other day. Tawneey was MIA – she was almost four hours late home from school, we hadn’t heard from her, the buses had not encountered any problems and the school would not help at all. They said they could not even confirm that Tawneey was a student there.  I was so ready to start calling hospitals and then the police. Talk about a rise in blood pressure!

Luckily, all worked out. She had stayed after school to help deliver some puppies and got caught up so she only tried my cell phone once although the call never came through.  The really sad part is that Cheryl actually drove to the school and still could not get any help from them and Tawneey was on campus at that moment!

We all learned a valuable lesson that day: we have become to dependent on our cell phone contact lists, that we don’t really know each others phone numbers. That will be corrected from now on.

Until next time…memorize your phone book!

Return from the Land of Taxes

Posted by elefantz on May 21, 2010

I know it has been quite a while since I posted last.  Working in an Accounting office, Tax Season is a very busy time.  Luckily we got through it unharmed.

I was also helping out Beverly by homeschooling her son, Ryan over the past school year.  He would come to work and I would juggle my accounting duties and teaching duties throughout the day.  I am so very happy to say that we got through it and Ryan Graduated from 8th grade.  Woo Hoo!  Next year he will be in high school and back into the land of public education.

I will do my best to post more regularly from now on.

Until next time…

Feline Identity Crisis

Posted by elefantz on January 12, 2010

I think my cats are having an identity crisis.

Snickers on her way upSnickers thinks she is a parrot.  She likes to crawl up and sit on my shoulder.  I wonder if she would answer if I asked, “Polly wanna cracker”?  I don’t mind her crawling on my shoulder as much as the clawing into my shoulder to stay up there.

Billy JudeBilly Jude thinks he is a dog.  He likes to play fetch.  He came to me with the ring from a milk jug and dropped it in my lap.  Then he gently tapped my chin to get my attention and tapped the milk jug ring.  Okay, I got it…I picked it up, threw it across the room and watched him go.  He ‘fetched’ it and brought it back to me.  This went on for almost 30 minutes.

LouieLouie has just decided that he’s gonna be the next Tony Hawk.  If he could learn some half pikes, turny magig tricks or whatever it is they call them, then we could support his hobby.  At least it would help pay for the cat food.

DongwaDongwa…well he knows exactly what he is; a big cuddly bear and we are all perfectly happy with that.

Someone really should remind them that they are cats. :)

Today’s Youth VS. Education

Posted by elefantz on January 12, 2010

What is the deal with today’s youth and their thoughts that Education is not important and that school is ‘a stupid waste of time’? I have heard it from quite a few of the younger generation lately and I just don’t get it. While I think some of the school systems in Tucson are really lacking in their administration and teachers, I am still a firm believer in education.

I wonder if today’s youth feels this way because of the lack of enthusiasm from the School Administrations, Education Boards and array of Teachers that just don’t seem to care anymore. Is this a Global Epidemic or just something that is happening in my own backyard?

I know that a lot of people immediately blame the parent’s but I have seen and lived first hand that that is not always the case. Yes, I am sure there are parents out there that don’t care either; in fact, I have had experiences with some of them, but I have seen plenty that push education, discuss the importance with their children and yet the kids still say it’s stupid.

What do we need to do to get the children of the future to understand the importance of a good education? If I can ever figure it out, I’ll let you know.

Welcome to 2010

Posted by elefantz on January 10, 2010

Hello all.  This is my first post of the New Year.  I have decided that one of my goals is to post more frequently than I have in the past.  So I got a new blog site and am ready to go.

The New Year started kinda bumpy for me.  I had what I believe to be a gallstone attack and spent New Years Eve and the three days after in bed.  Tawneey and Jason were great and took wonderful care of me.  I have a doctor’s appointment on Tuesday so we will see what she has to say.

We had Tawneey’s 22nd Birthday party on the 5th here at the house.  It was loads of fun.  Mom, Dad, Cheryl, Blythe, Richard, Jim and Heather all came over.  We had spaghetti for dinner and per Tawneey’s request, homemade peach cobbler instead of cake.  Chandler decided that it should be his birthday so he tried to take some gifts, eat the ‘cake’ ahead of time and when I was lighting the candles, he blew them out before we even had a chance to start singing Happy Birthday.  All in all, it was a wonderful evening but very exhausting.  I don’t know how Mom managed all those years of hosting parties at her house.

Work is starting to get busy…Tax Season and all; for those that haven’t read my About Me page – I work in an accounting office.  Busy is good though.  It’s nice to have a job to go to with so many who don’t out there in the world.  I am grateful for that.

I wish everyone a terrific New Year.  Look for more posts to come.  Until Next Time…
